The Sleeping Beauty
Location:
Westfield High School Auditorium 18250 North Union Street Westfield, Indiana
Join us as Central Indiana Dance Ensemble bring to the stage the beloved story of The Sleeping Beauty. First performed in January 1890, this was the first successful ballet composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
The curtain opens at the joyous celebration of the christening of the beautiful Princess Aurora. All the fairies of the kingdom are invited to bestow their blessings and present their gifts of beauty, grace, generosity, song, and temperament. The celebration is interrupted by the Carabosse, she is angered and insulted that she was not invited. Angrily she announces a curse on Aurora, that one day she will prick her finger and die. The Lilac Fairy has not presented her gift for Aurora, she declares that the princess will prick her finger however, she will not die. Instead she will fall into a deep sleep from which she will be awoken after a hundred years by the kiss of a prince.
