Suzann DeLay
Artistic Director
SUZANN DELAY – a native of California, started her dance career at a very young age with Deane and Barbara Crockett, founders of Sacramento Ballet. While in California, she was a member with the Sacramento Ballet, dancing major roles in Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Coppélia, Antony Tudor's Soiree' Musicale, Pas de Quarte, and Paquita. She also had a brief career with Pacific Northwest Ballet until injury forced her to retire. She has been fortunate to study with Violette Verdy of the New York City Ballet, Robert Barnett of the Atlanta Ballet, Robert Joffrey of the Joffrey Ballet, David Wood (Modern), Gordon Paxman of Ballet West and Janet Reed of the New York City Ballet to name a few. Mrs. DeLay has also appeared in several musicals including The Princess and the Pea and Lil' Abner. She has also appeared in several PBS specials in the California area.
Mrs. DeLay has taught, choreographed and performed throughout the United States, including the School for Sacramento Ballet and various regional companies. She has won numerous awards for choreography works in ballet and lyrical. Mrs. DeLay is currently the head of the ballet program at the Performer's Edge School of Dance and Theatre.
Trained in Cecchetti and Russian techniques, she was a student of the Crockett's for over 20 years and is dedicated to carrying on their teachings.
Michael Casey Clark
Assistant to the DirectorMichael Casey Clark is originally from Fishers, Indiana, Casey started dancing at the age of 19. He attended Ball State University graduating with a BS in Dance Performance with a minor in Theatre. While at Ball State, he was encouraged to attend dance classes and audition for the Ball State Performing Dance Company where he was accepted as an Apprentice. A year later he became a company member. While studying at Ball State, he also performed with the Anderson Young Ballet Theatre, directed by Lou Ann Young. He received many scholarships and was the first to receive the Lynette Jordan Schisla Scholarship.
At Ball State, Casey developed his choreography skills. He was one of several students to have their works adjudicated and performed at the American College Dance Festival, representing Ball State. Casey also choreographed many musicals at Ball State. “Dancing at Laughnasa” was adjudicated and presented at the American College Theatre Festival. He was also voted Best Student Choreographer.
Casey has studied and worked with many outstanding choreographers and master teachers including Gail Gilbert (David Parsons Dance Company), Franciose Martinett (Joffrey Ballet), Sylvia Waters (Alvin Ailey), Trinette Singleton (Joffrey Ballet), Luigi and Twyla Tharp, just to name a few.
Summer of 2003, Casey was accepted to the Glenda Brown Choreography Project in Austin, Texas, where he worked with Margo Sappington. Casey attended this project as a choreographer where he was inspired to create eight dances in thirteen days.
Casey is very excited to be expanding his teaching and choreography responsibilities at Performer’s Edge School of Dance. Casey would like to thank Suzann DeLay for her insight and astute knowledge she has shared with him.
Trish Roberds
Youth Ensemble DirectorTrish Roberds is a native of Indiana. Mrs. Roberds is a 1985 graduate of Butler University, with a BA in Performing Arts - Dance and Music major, Theatre minor. During her academic career at Butler University, Mrs. Roberds was a member of the Butler Ballet Company and a member of the performing group, "PIZAZZ".
Mrs. Roberds has been a dance instructor at Performer's Edge School of Dance in Carmel, Indiana for over ten years. Mrs. Roberds has also taught for Indianapolis Public Schools. She has choreographed for the Performer’s Edge Dance Theatre Company, Performer's Edge Competition Team, Indiana Pacers - Junior Pacemates and for local high schools and community theatres. Mrs. Roberds has been employed as a singer and dancer with Busch Gardens Amusement Park in Williamsburg, Virginia.
Mrs. Roberds is very excited to be working with the Central Indiana Dance Ensemble this year. She has taken on the role as Director of the newly formed CIDE - Youth Ensemble. This is the third year for Mrs. Roberds to use her choreography skills in CIDE's Nutcracker.
